Nate Brown plays saxophone and flute, creates music for stage and film, and manages music and visual art projects for a local arts agency.
His most recent project is a soul searching exploration of Christian sacred music. The effort began after an inspiring unrehearsed recording session with Jeff Busch – drums / percussion, Dawn Clement – piano, and Paul Rucker – bass / cello.
Past work includes collaboration with the great Brazilian pianist Jovino Santos Neto who produced and performed on Brown’s solo album Based On Actual Events, composing theme music for a Hispanic variety TV show, work with Jake Kongaika of Cub World, and playing Latin jazz with Coco Loco.
Past community collaborations include a Washington Composers Forum Composer Spotlight, the Gage Academy of Fine Art Drawing Jam and the co-creation of Tales & Treasures – an interfaith celebration of Christmas featuring musical performances and life-sized pop-up-book theatrical scenes.
Nate Brown grew up in the boondocks of Anchorage, Alaska playing saxophone in coffee shops and pit orchestra for caffeinated audiences with cabin fever. He traded snow for rain by moving to Seattle to attend Cornish College of the Arts as a full-ride Kreielsheimer scholar. At Cornish, Nate studied saxophone, composition and classical flute. He also admits to “spending countless distracted hours learning to play piano like a lounge hack.” Nate later started his own production company and toured the United States as a teaching and performing artist with a Celtic-influenced jazz trio.
