Nate Brown began playing jazz with nightclub musicians at age ten, debuting his own arrangements at Jazz Week concerts for the University of Alaska Anchorage. After working in pit orchestras, swing bands and Latin bands, he undertook a rare opportunity to study privately with Prestige recording artist Eric Kloss in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Nate moved to Seattle after receiving the Kreielsheimer Scholarship to attend Cornish College of the Arts. There he began a rich collaborating with the great Brazilian pianist Jovino Santos Neto who would later produce and perform on Brown’s first solo album.

In addition to formal studies at Cornish and performing with his jazz groups and rock band Cotton, Nate toured throughout the United States for three years with Sabella, an Irish influenced jazz trio. While with Sabella, he was the featured soloist with the Idaho Falls Symphony Orchestra and performed for community arts organizations across America.

Noted Seattle performances have included work with the James Knapp Big Band, Julian Priester, and Don Lanpheree at venues ranging from the Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery to the Sit & Spin lounge. In 2000, Nate performed for the second consecutive year as a special guest artist at the “Main Event” held at the Sunriver Resort just outside of Bend, Oregon. Proceeds from the celebrity black tie affair went to benefit the Boys & Girls Club.

In 2001, Nate received a call to serve a religious mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and made arrangements to put aside his music career to fulfill the two-year commitment. Just days after his decision was made, Jack Straw Productions awarded him an Artist Support Program Grant to record his original compositions. Nate wrote a two part suite Kansas Anymore for the project and recorded for two days with his band and collaborator producer Jovino Santos Neto.

Two years ministering to the communities of Las Vegas and Western Nevada caused him to re-focus his talents on the work of using the arts to strengthen communities. After an additional nine months were spent studying art organizations in Washington, DC, Nate returned to Seattle in 2004 and began working for On the Boards, Benke Center for Contemporary Performance.

Nate Brown currently spends his days working in arts administration and uses his free time and performance skills to serve the community. Recent performances have included the Seattle Academy of Fine Art Drawing Jam, Washington Composers Forum Composer Spotlight, and co-producing and performing in Tales & Treasures, an interfaith celebration of Christmas.
